Viking Range Repair in Los Angeles

Ignition, flame quality and griddle faults on Viking professional gas and dual-fuel ranges.

A Viking professional range is a gas appliance with a porcelain burner box, sealed brass burners and one spark module firing every electrode on the same circuit. Most of what goes wrong sits at the spark, the port or the valve stem — not at a control board, and rarely at the manifold.

What we get called for

A burner ticks endlessly and never catches
A cracked spark electrode, or a wet porcelain burner box after a boil-over shorting the spark to ground.
Flame burns orange and lifts away from the cap
Blocked burner ports or a cap sitting crooked on its head — grit and cooking oil, not a gas supply fault.
Knobs turned stiff enough to need two hands
Dried grease in the valve stems. They come apart, clean, regrease and go back — no new valves needed most of the time.
Griddle or broiler heats unevenly, or not at all
An element leg broken open, or a scorched connector at the terminal block behind the plate.

Worth checking before you pay anyone

  1. Lift the cap and grate off the burner that will not light and look at the white ceramic on the electrode. A hairline crack is enough to send the spark to ground instead of to the gas.
  2. Dry the burner box out. After a boil-over the porcelain holds damp for days, and a wet box will tick endlessly on every burner at once rather than on the one that got wet.
  3. Turn the stiff knob with the gas shut off. Stiffness that needs two hands is dried grease in the valve stem — it comes apart, cleans and regreases; it is not a failed valve.

What the visit is

  • A diagnosis, not a guess. Panels off, meters on the machine, the fault found and then shown to you rather than described down the phone.
  • The price before the work. Which band the repair falls into is set out below, and the figure for your machine is agreed with you before anything is opened up further.
  • Parts on board. Spark electrodes, igniter modules, valve stems, griddle elements and terminal blocks ride on the van.
  • Back the way it was. Built-ins come out on protection and go back with the panel gaps as they were.

What the repair itself costs

The service call

Flat $89 service call covering the visit and full diagnosis, credited against the repair once you approve it.

Igniter or burner assembly
$180–$460
Oven thermostat or heating element
$210–$430
Refrigeration fan or defrost system
$290–$660
Dishwasher pump or control
$210–$380
Control board or touch panel
$420–$620
Compressor or sealed-system repair
$1,490–$3,040

Each line is a range because the part, the labour and the access differ from one machine to the next. The figure for your machine is worked out at the visit and agreed with you before any work starts — and the $89 service call comes off it the moment you approve the job.

For comparison — a comparable Viking replacement, before installation — $6,980–$15,730. On a cabinet that is otherwise sound, that gap is usually what makes the repair the sensible way round.

  • Half the griddle plate would not come up to heat for our Sunday breakfasts. A broken element leg and a scorched connector at the block, both replaced. It cooks flat now, but the part took nine days.

  • The knobs on our range had gone so stiff my wrist ached turning them. He pulled each valve stem, cleaned and regreased it, and left them turning smoothly. A small job he could easily have talked up.

  • Flames were lifting off two burner caps and burning orange, which frightened me. Fine grit blowing down off Griffith Park had packed the ports and one cap sat crooked. Cleared and reseated, blue flame again.
